Dope Album: Nothing Was The Same

Drake has been a superstar for a while now but I think this go round he knows it. "Thank Me Later" was a typical first album...big features and notable producers. "Take Care" was a little closer to the OVO sound but tracks like "Proud of You" seemed to stick out like a sore thumb. But this time I think Drake has finally found his sound and is willing to drive in this lane he has created for a long time. A couple things stood out to me about "Nothing Was The Same". For one, the production on this album is A grade. Each beat is unique and mastered perfectly. "Tuscan leather" has a flipped Whitney Houston sample that sits perfectly on the baseline. One of the standouts to me was "From Time" this isn't a hip hop beat matter of fact none of these beats would be considered "hip hop". I consider it rap and blue or the new RnB.  No matter what people say, yeah I see the memes, and the horrible wardrobes, Drake makes dope music that is relatable because nowadays emotion is no longer in hip hop. Just turn on the radio and listen intently and tell me what connects emotionally with you. Drake sounds confident as ever on this album knowing that he has made it and that he no longer has to obey to the ways of the industry. This is summed up best in "Innocent Behaviour". The one complaint about the project is the tempo. "Hold On We Are Going Home" is the fastest song on the album. At times the lack of tempo make the songs feel like they have blended together. One other thing that caught my eye was the features...no Nicki, no Wayne just Jayz. Overall this album is just that, an album. No one song stands out as an obvious single, instead the project itself is something that will be on repeat for the next couple months. I applaud Drake for making his own type of music on the entire project. No turning up here!
